Initial Response v.3

Faster

Finally Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (The Rundown, Walking Tall) has decided to stop making ridiculously bad kids movies (for now) and go back to what he should be doing….action movies. Though this isn’t that good of a movie it was nice seeing him be a badass and an action star. Hopefully he’ll be doing more roles like this and maybe his role in Fast Five, the fifth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, will get him more scripts. I’m hoping Sylvester Stallone will hit him up for one of the sequels to The Expendables.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

I can’t believe it took me until this past Saturday to watch this movie. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend the film, it’s the best adaptation of a Roald Dahl book since James and The Giant Peach…. Tim Burton’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory was HORRIBLE!

Piranha

The fact that this movie knows that it is supposed to be campy and a traditional B-Movie makes the film enjoyable as long as you are aware of that as well. Directed by Alexander Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, High Tension), I expected the film to be overly gory and hard to watch. Not so much since the director knew not to make it more than what it was and it’s comes to no surprise that a sequel is in the works. If you don’t have a weak stomach it’s worth a viewing.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World

As soon as the music started for the Universal logo I completely fell in love with this movie and my love for the film grew more and more as the actual movie started playing. WATCH THIS! I can not stress that enough. Michael Cera has made some bad movies since his breakout role in Superbad but it had to be fate for him to become an actor because he was definitely made to play this role.

The Town

Ben Affleck’s second directorial feature (Gone Baby Gone) is once again a well acted and well-directed film and again filmed in his home town of Boston. Great performances by the entire cast and Jeremy Renner (S.W.A.T., The Hurt Locker) was again nominated for his performance but this time for a supporting role.

The Expendables

A guy movie. It’s a nostalgia film starring the action stars we grew up with mixed with the new generation. Though the movie I’ll admit wasn’t great it was just awesome to see all these guys in a film together. Though there were a couple of scenes that were just kind of awkward (like Mickey Rourke crying), the film sticks to what it needs to be…a bunch of big guys with big guns killing and a high death rate. The way this franchise is set up it can go on for a very long time even if Stallone steps down eventually and somebody else takes the reigns. Just keep putting action stars in a film together and the audience will be there.

Max Payne

“The Devil is building his army. Max Payne is looking for something that God wants to stay hidden. That is what makes him more dangerous.”

Shoot ‘Em Up

“Does anyone know what a Jimmy Cagney love scene is? It’s when Cagney lets the good guy live.”

Smokin’ Aces

“You see… this is one of the rare moments, where your ass gets to be completely honest… and if i’m asking you what you said to Mecklen, assume the shit is rhetorical, assume I already know.”

Once Upon A Time in Mexico

“El, you really must try this because it’s puerco pibil. It’s a slow-roasted pork, nothing fancy. It just happens to be my favorite, and I order it with a tequila and lime in every dive I go to in this country. And honestly, that is the best it’s ever been anywhere. In fact, it’s too good. It’s so good that when I’m finished, I’ll pay my check, walk straight into the kitchen and shoot the cook. Because that’s what I do. I restore the balance to this country. And that is what I would like from you right now. Help keep the balance by pulling the trigger.”

Mission:Impossible II

“Every search for a hero must begin with something which every hero requires, a villain.”

Ronin

” To make a point. I don’t know her, but I was ready to splatter her brains all over the playground. But you… I don’t particularly like you. Just imagine what I’ll do to you if you try anything. Now give me my money!”

The Rundown

“Rage, rage… against the dying of the light… for there shall be no mercy… for any force that stands… blocking this path of his righteousness! BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA-TA-DA!”

Hancock

“Whatever we are, we were built in twos, okay? We were drawn to each other. No matter how far I run, he’s always there. He finds me. It’s physics.”

Live Free or Die Hard

“You know what you get for being a hero? Nothin’. You get shot at. You get a little pat on the back, blah, blah, blah, attaboy. You get divorced. Your wife can’t remember your last name. Your kids don’t want to talk to you. You get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. Trust me, kid, nobody wants to be that guy.”

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

“The unknown future rolls toward us. I face it, for the first time, with a sense of hope. Because if a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too.”
